Counselor's Corner

What does a School Counselor do?

Every student will receive a handful of classroom lessons throughout the year, which are taught by me. These lessons focus on controlling strong emotions, coping with stress, setting goals and making plans, organization and time management, and warning signs of depression and suicide. All students are welcome to join me for Wellness Wednesdays where they will have the opportunity to practice de-escalation strategies, set goals, and learn more about a balanced and healthy life.

Some students will need a bit more help with these topics, and that's ok! Students who are identified by staff to need additional support will be invited to participate in small group activities (typically during lunch) to help develop their social, emotional, or academic skills as necessary.

A few students might have a personal concern that requires an individual approach  (family changes, mental health concerns, bullying, friend problems, anxiety disorders, depression, grief and loss). If you want me to check in with your student privately, please click on the pink button below to fill out the request form. In a 1:1 setting, I can provide personalized support and refer them to community resources tailored to their unique needs.

For more information about the Middle School Counselor's role in your student's life, please view the Essential Role of the Middle School Counselor, which is published by the American School Counselor Association.

If you think your child needs support beyond what it provided/available to the entire campus, please click the pink button titled "I want the School Counselor to meet with my student".
